Unbelievably it is already the 8th of February and the Super Bowl is behind us. Congratulations are in order for the Lombardi trophy recipients the Denver Broncos on a superb victory and condolences to the young Panthers team for their effort although they did admirably considering they did come down with a good old case of the rookie jitters.
I remember coming down with my fair share of Magic rookie jitters back in the beginning of my career. I would be almost ready to perform and my heart would start pumping fast while I was moping my forehead's dripping sweat. I would try to use all of the suggestions I was given by the seasoned performers, such as breathe deeply, drink plenty of water and do a little cardio in the back room. But really nothing seemed to work except for one thing, Repetition. Not repetition as in practicing but repetition as in performing. A seasoned performer can play a game of football in their sleep or in my case Perform my Magic Show without any hesitation or fear. After 26 years I learned it really is all about the doing not the dreaming. As with young Panthers QB Cam Newton"s Super Bowl dilemma of having the rookie jitters there really was no cure. First you have to create, then practice, then organize and then perform it so much it becomes another extremity. Mastering the art of performing is what it will take to find the cure for rookie jitters.
