An easy explanation of The First Amendment

I am Denver Colorado Magician Connie Elstun and I am an Entertaining Educator.  I would like to help our national struggle right now and as an educator who offers award winning educational programs like our Amazing Elstun's Magic Made in America Show. I just might be able to help.

Obviously, the majority of people who live in America need an update on their American Government studies. We live in a country that has a Constitution that is for the people and by the people. Better than anything, we have a Bill of Rights. These words make America great already.

Let's read the 1st Amendment together shall we :

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.”

I know there are a lot of big words so let us break it down.

1. There is a complete separation of Church and State in America.  You are free to believe in and practice the religion of your choice including Judaism, Muslim, Catholic, Christian, Pagan including to choose to be an Atheist and all in between. However, other people can live, attend school and public places without the onset of anyone else's religion.

2. An American citizen may say anything they would like.

3. An American citizen has a right to hear the press in any fashion they choose.  Picking an unbiased news report is up to you.

4. We have the right to protest peacefully in a large group or to make a statement in a parade without harassment from law enforcement.  However, rule # 2 freedom of speech gives people who do not agree the opportunity to protest the protestors action.

5. We have the right to change laws and government policy with ballot measures and through the voting procedure.  It is important to make sure your freedom is upheld where any particular person of any color, demographic or creed can bring a change to the ballot.
